Swalwell QUITS Congress — Drugging and Rape Accusation EXPLODES…

The House of Representatives faces a razor-thin GOP majority of 216-213 after Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., and another member resigned following serious allegations, leaving congressional leadership scrambling to maintain control as critical votes loom.

Swalwell Faces Rape Accusation

Lonna Drewes accused Swalwell of drugging and raping her in 2018 during what she believed would be a professional networking opportunity. Speaking at a Beverly Hills news conference Tuesday alongside attorneys Lisa Bloom and Arick Fudali, Drewes said she met Swalwell socially while running a fashion software company. She alleges he offered business connections in Silicon Valley before the assault occurred. Drewes claims she lost consciousness during the alleged attack and did not consent to any sexual activity.

Drewes said Swalwell invited her to two public events before suggesting they retrieve paperwork from his hotel room. After drinking one glass of wine, she became incapacitated and unable to move. She also alleged Swalwell choked her during the assault. Drewes did not undergo a rape examination at the time but documented the incident in a handwritten calendar and discussed it during therapy sessions at a Connecticut sexual assault center. The allegations had lasting effects on her mental health, leading to self-medication and suicidal thoughts that persisted for years.

Political Power Delayed Action

Drewes explained her years of silence stemmed from fear rather than doubt about what happened. She cited Swalwell’s political influence, legal background, and family law enforcement connections as reasons for delaying action. At the time of the alleged assault, she was considering a city council run in Beverly Hills, which placed her in proximity to political figures and increased pressure to remain silent. Drewes was in a committed relationship when the alleged assault occurred and emphasized she would never have engaged in consensual activity with Swalwell. She plans to file a report with law enforcement and stands with other women who have come forward.

Congressional Balance at Risk

The dual resignations leave House Republicans with a precarious three-seat majority, making every vote critical as major legislation and budget battles approach. With such narrow margins, even a handful of absences or defections could derail the GOP agenda. Leadership now faces the challenge of maintaining party unity while managing upcoming special elections to fill the vacant seats. The timing creates significant vulnerability as Congress approaches crucial fiscal deadlines and policy debates that could define the legislative session.
