At this point in time, there’s honestly no telling when the January 6 committee will complete its work and investigations. It’s already come out that new hearings will be held later this year.
Despite the differing viewpoints on the committee, its work and true intentions, it’s definitely here to stay for the foreseeable future.
Part of the body’s work has involved subpoenaing various officials connected to former President Trump. These subpoenas are designed for the committee to get more information about what was happening at the White House when the Capitol riots transpired.
Steve Bannon, a former aide to the Trump White House, was one of several officials who received a subpoena from the January 6 committee. Bannon, as it turned out, ignored this subpoena, leading to his conviction on contempt of Congress charges, per Newsmax.
What to Know About Bannon’s Conviction
Not only did Bannon decline to abide by the subpoena from the January 6 committee, but he also did not supply records requested by the committee either.
On Friday, a jury determined that Bannon was guilty of two contempt of Congress charges. This means jail time for the former Trump aide is imminent. For each count, Bannon’s time behind bars could be as short as 30 days or as long as 12 months.

At this time, Bannon is scheduled to be sentenced in October. His attorneys claim the charges against him were motivated by politics, rather than the rule of law.
Meanwhile, Amanda Vaughn, the prosecutor who tried Bannon, argued that he behaved as if he were above the law.
Reps. Liz Cheney and Bennie Thompson cheered Bannon’s conviction as well. Both key members of the January 6 committee claimed that Bannon chose fidelity to Trump over all else.
Reactions From the General Public
Many Americans who are supportive of Trump are not thrilled with the conviction of Bannon. Some echoed the remarks from Bannon’s attorney, stating the conviction is more about politics than about the rule of law.
Meanwhile, people who aren’t fans of Trump or Bannon are saying the latter got what he deserved. Another common claim is that Bannon should have simply complied with the subpoena.

Other Trump critics are questioning Bannon’s motives for refusing to testify before the January 6 committee or supply the requested records. There is a train of thought that suggests the former Trump aide ultimately has something to hide here.
It remains to be seen what impacts Bannon’s conviction has on other officials who receive subpoenas from the January 6 committee.
