Their leader exclusively told Politico that two Americans, a Canadian, and a Swedish national were slain this week after a Russian tank began firing on them.
This happened during an hour-long skirmish along the front in the eastern Donetsk area.
The Details
The foreign troops’ leader, Ruslan Miroshnichenko, said on Saturday that the two Americans slain were Luke “Skywalker” Lucyszyn, as well as Bryan Young. He said on July 18, they died with Canadians Emile-Antoine Roy-Sirois and Edvard Selander Patrignani.
According to Miroshnichenko, the soldiers were members of a special operations unit under the Internal Defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The village of Siversk, located in the eastern Donetsk oblast, was the focus of Russia’s invading force and their regiment has been stationed close to it.
The militant groups were stationed in the village of Hryhorivka, two miles northeast of Siversk, in an effort to halt Russia’s assault.
There, Russian soldiers were attempting to cross a river. Miroshnichenko claimed “the guys were told to assume their fire positions” and clear the gully.
That's the context of Putin's invasion of Ukraine which foreign analysts totally miss. For two decades he's being maxing warmongering and using WWII to justify extreme Russian ethnonationalism and imperial expansion. They succeeded in doing it. However, Russian tanks attacked them at the end of the mission, according to Miroshnichenko.
Luke was hurt by the initial shell. Edward, Emile, as well as Bryan, three males, made a swift effort to assist Luke, administer CPR, and get him out of this situation.
The second shell afterward killed everyone. A spokeswoman for the State Department acknowledged the killings of the two Americans late Friday, but did not give their names.
“We are in contact with the parents and provide every form of consular support we can. We have nothing else to contribute out of respect for the families at this trying time,” the official told Politico.
What Happens Next?
The administrations of Sweden and Canada could not be reached right away for remarks.
In their quest to retake the whole eastern Luhansk and Donetsk areas, sometimes referred to as the Donbas, Russian forces have destroyed entire cities and villages with heavy artillery, tanks, and air power.
Siversk is situated across a route that is essential for transporting personnel and supplies to the front 20 kilometers north of Bakhmut.

The Russian army would gain substantial footing and take over control of almost 80% of the Donetsk area if those two locations were taken.
According to a status report which Politico got that detailed the attack, the foreign fighters were sent to the region to support Ukrainian soldiers. As it turns out, they were chosen precisely because of their training and expertise.
The report, written by a commander, stated the following: “We started preparing for clearing the valley on the eastern fringes of the Grigorovka settlement.”
This is only the latest of war crimes committed by Putin’s troops.
