These days, many Americans are wondering what California Governor Gavin Newsom is up to. Despite numerous problems in his own state, Newsom is continuing to direct his attention toward GOP governors in Texas and Florida.
Recently, Newsom openly dared Florida Gov. DeSantis to debate him. On that end, DeSantis questioned whether the lights would even stay on long enough in California for a debate.
For a while, there was talk of Newsom planning for a 2024 presidential run. However, the California governor claims he won’t be running for president in 2024 or 2028.
Recently, Newsom left his own state that’s facing homelessness, electrical issues, and other crises in order to take shots at Texas Governor Greg Abbott, per Newsmax.
The Latest From Newsom on Abbott
At the Clinton Global Initiative meeting, Newsom ripped into Abbott, claiming the Texas governor is unintelligent. However, the California governor claims his Texas counterpart is interested in being unintelligent and just chooses to keep doubling down.
These remarks come after Newsom used a portion of his campaign funds to run ads in Texas that slam the state’s policies on abortion and firearms.

Newsom pulled a similar stunt in Florida, attacking DeSantis in various ads and claiming the Florida governor doesn’t support freedom. The California governor was widely criticized for this, given his own authoritarian policies that he wielded in his state amid COVID.
Critics of Newsom have said the governor should focus on tidying up California before attacking Texas’ and Florida’s governors at every turn.
What’s Motivating Newsom?
With the California governor denying that he’s gearing up for a presidential run, many people are wondering why Newsom is so focused on Abbott and DeSantis.
There’s a sense of irony here, seeing as both of these Republican governors have been viewed as possible presidential candidates, especially DeSantis.

What’s even more ironic about all this is California lost a lot of citizens under Newsom’s watch. Many of these people have fled to states like Texas and Florida in order to enjoy freedoms that were stripped away from California.
One of Newsom’s latest stunts involves writing to the Justice Department and asking them to look into Florida and Texas governors over them transporting illegal immigrants into sanctuary cities.
The California governor did not call for such investigations when Joe Biden was the one giving illegal immigrants free transport to various cities. At this point, Americans can expect more stunts from Newsom, as he doesn’t appear too concerned with problems in his state.
